CARNIVAL OF BARRANQUILLA ORIGIN AND HISTORY

The Carnival of Barranquilla has its remote origin in the Carnival came to America from Spain. Hence its spirit of renewal and change similar to that inspired this holiday in Europe.
The first carnival held in the city is lost in history more than a century ago, when Ottawa was a small town. However, various stories have circulated regarding how the people celebrated the Barranquilla Carnival, its always so naive, funny, playful and above all healthy, have allowed the retention of a tradition that goes back three centuries.
The Carnival festivities, of European origin, were introduced to America by the Spanish and Portuguese. The history of Barranquilla are coming in the celebration that took place in Cartagena de Indias, in colonial times, as party slaves appeared around that time blacks in the streets with typical instruments and special costumes, dancing and singing.
The traditional novena of La Candelaria, in Cartagena de Indias, framed in sumptuous dances in the eighteenth century a holiday granted to blacks brought from Africa muzzles. These parties are the main source of Barranquilla Carnival dances.
