THE HISTORY OF TOURISM IN COLOMBIA

The history of tourism in Colombia dates back to June 17, 1954 with the formal creation of the Colombian Association of Hotels (ACOTEL) in Barranquilla was managed primarily by John Sutherland, then Tequendama Hotel Manager. On October 25, 1955 formed the Association of International Airlines in Colombia (Alaico) in Bogota. On 24 October 1957 the government created the Empresa Colombiana de Turismo by Decree 0272. While restaurants are agremiaron in the Colombian Association of Great Restaurants (ACOGRAN). In 1959, the mayor of Bogotá created the Institute of Culture and Tourism of Bogotá.
In December 1963 he opened the first resort hotel in Santa Marta, Hotel Irotama and in 1964 created the first hotel chain in Colombia, the Foundation Hotels Ltd.
